I don’t know, and it’s ok because there is an answer to that. It took me a while to get to this point, but I am happy to say that I am here now. So, what does that mean? What is it that you don’t know and how do you have an answer but don’t know? Great questions!! I hope my simple answer make sense and helps you tremendously.
Many times we won’t do things out of uncertainty, fear, or pride. I don’t know if I should…, I don’t know how to…, I don’t know if it will work…, I don’t know if it’s too late…, and I’m sure you can add your own I don’t know to this list. We put our ideas or dreams on hold, stagnate ourselves and never move forward in some areas. It’s time to move into the know. I said I have an answer, and I do. It’s a very simple answer – ask. If you don’t know or need something; ask. There are people that are doing what we want to do, have what we need, or are at a point where we want to be. Asking seems to be one of the hardest things for some of us to do but it is critical to our next level.
Ask is probably not the answer you were looking for or expecting, but it is a good one. The one stipulation to asking is asking the RIGHT person!! I talked all about that in my Need Help post regarding my business plan. I had supportive counsel, but they were not skilled or wise in that entrepreneurial area. We ask the wrong people, get the wrong answer, and assume that it cannot or should not be done. Or, even worse, we don’t know and won’t ask because we are the “go to” person for answers and pride keeps us from admitting that we don’t know, therefore we never ask. The danger in that is providing wrong answers or answers that aren’t as efficient or effective as they could be. Another challenge we create in not knowing is in research. Research is key to foundation, planning, direction, and growth. We will research for answers and still may not understand what we’ve found. This too causes stagnation, delays or even parking in route to our goal(s). If you do not know, ask – it is ok. I know they exist but please note that everyone is not a hater. Everyone does not mean ill will or want to see you fail. There are people that are willing to help IF and only IF you are serious about doing your “it”. You may have to expand your circle to find them, but they are out there. Some people are more than willing to help IF they see your initiative and valid, workable plans. They do not choose to waste time on pointless or “about to” conversations or meetings. They may not always be the friendliest but if they have your answer, shake it off, get out of your feelings and get your answers. Business (or life) is not always friendly. They know this and sometimes will test your endurance and resourcefulness by not giving you the friendliest or complete answer initially. Allow them to be a part of your perseverance and thickening of your skin. They’ve been at it a long time and know what it takes to succeed; that is why you asked them, right?? If you can’t handle them, you will not be able to handle the masses as you grow. Anything with life will grow and ultimately, that is what we want. So, you say I don’t know – ok, that’s fine. Do your research and then ask.
