1 x 7 = 7 is a very simple math equation and yet it can be an answer to building momentum, motivation and helping you, no us, move forward.  What does it mean?  It means that one thing completed every day for seven days equals seven things completed at the end of the week.

In a previous blog, The little Things, I talked about how little things really do matter because it is the little things added together that form the big thing.  The example used was $50,000.  It does not magically appear.  It is the sum of smaller denominations added together.  It is the same with goals and projects – they will not be magically completed.  One thing each day equals seven things completed at the end of the week.  We all have goals or things we want to accomplish.  It may be starting an external business or simply handling the internal business of you.  Too often we are super excited about our project or new business and we start out strong.  We are motivated for a little while but then we fizzle out and quit.  We become distracted or discouraged and put it on the sidelines yet we’ll constantly think or say, “I need to get back to…”.  It is the distractions that many times causes us to focus our energy in the wrong direction and when we decide to get back to our own project or business, we are too tired and worn out, at which time, discouragement shows up.  Another reason that we quit is because we set unrealistic goals.  Everything cannot be done right NOW, this week or this weekend.  We still have life happening and we are adding more to it.  Just remember, however, small steps are progress too.  As we’ve all heard the phrase, “Rome was not built in a day”.  One reasonable goal per day is achievable.

This is not meant to be a long post – just my thoughts and I hope they help and encourage you.  1 x 7 = 7.  Yes, there will be times that we have to do more.  However, we can start by doing one thing each day and by the end of the week, seven goals will have been completed.  It is not the size of the thing, it’s the momentum and sense of accomplishment that comes from doing it.  That is what gets and keeps us moving…which is what we want.  Although it may not be popular in our digital age, but what helps me remain motivated is a paper calendar.  It hits a lot different when you look at what you’ve accomplished on paper vs a mobile device, computer or tablet.  It’s a hardcopy, in your hands, look at how you spend your time each day as well as what can be changed or adjusted.  One task each day is a starting point and there will be days that you’re able to do more.  On the days you can’t, that one thing is still a step forward.  Be encouraged, keep it moving and remember 1 x 7 = 7.
